A young boy Edison Kimball killed in a multi-vehicle accident, and now a family is grieving the death of another child just a few years after losing a daughter.
In a collision involving at least eight vehicles, Edison Kimball, 6, died on Thursday in Salt Lake City, Utah when a semi-truck struck his family’s car.
Kristi, the boy’s mother, and Ruby, his sister, were both admitted to hospitals.
“My sister has a concussion and broken bones,” Edison’s aunt, Kelli Liston, said in the description of a GoFundMe fundraiser page she made for the family.
“Kristi and Quinn’s oldest daughter Ruby is in critical condition at Primary Children’s hospital in the ICU awaiting surgery this morning.”
The GoFundMe fundraiser was created less than 24 hours ago and has collected more than $100,000 for the family.
The loss of their kid in the multiple-vehicle collision comes eight years after the death of Lila, the Kimballs’ 3-year-old daughter, from a “rare syndrome,” according to her obituary, in 2015.
“My sister and her husband buried their oldest daughter Lila 8 years ago, and we cannot comprehend what is ahead,” the GoFundMe fundraising page said.
According to the Utah Highway Patrol, the Hyundai Palisade belonging to the family was struck by a semi-truck that was travelling west on I-215 before hitting four other cars.
Minor to serious injuries from the collision resulted in the hospitalisation of nine drivers and passengers.
According to Lieutenant Jalaine Hawkes of the Utah Highway Patrol, all but one of the cars at the site had slowed down or stopped due to the afternoon traffic.
“The car-hauler that is, unfortunately, the [heaviest], the biggest,” Hawkes said.
“Kind of the most dangerous is kind of the vehicle that was not stopped and was actually traveling at a higher rate of speed and then did collide with multiple vehicles at this location.”
No tickets were issued at the scene on Thursday night, according to UHP Sergeant Cameron Roden, who spoke to the media.
Prosecutors would probably review the crash’s findings, according to Roden.
