The Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme, which will cost Rs 16.8 billion, has been approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).
Senator Ishaq Dar, the federal minister of finance and revenue, presided over the ECNEC meeting. In relation to the approval of the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme, the summary was submitted by the Ministry of Planning, Development, Reform, and Initiative. It informed the ECNEC that CDWP had approved the project and had instructed the member (S&T) to review the project’s scope and costs before submitting them to the ECNEC.
According to CDWP’s decision, the price was reduced from Rs. 17.5 billion to Rs. 16.8 billion. Without changing the scope, the sponsors have submitted a modified PC-I at a cost of Rs. 16.8 billion.
ECNEC was informed by the Planning Commission that the project would be funded by the federal government and would be finished in two years, between 2023 and 2025. The forum then gave the project their blessing.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department will carry out the project Modernization of Hydromet Services of PMD in Pakistan (MHSP), which was proposed by the Aviation Division, at a cost of Rs. 14,498.875 million throughout the entire nation. The World Bank provided funding for the project as a part of the Post-flood 2022 Reconstruction Program.
The Ministry of Water Resources also considered and approved a project titled Water Requirement for K-IV Project Improvement of Kalri Baghar Feeder & Keenjhar Lake – Plain Cement Concrete (PCC) Lining of Karli Baghar Feeder Upper Phase-I Project to be carried out in District Jamshoro & Thatta of Sindh Province. The project is expected to cost Rs. 39,942.559 million, and the federal government and the provincial government (Govt. of Sindh) will split the cost of financing it 50:50. The Government of Sindh’s Irrigation Department will carry out the project.
The Lahore Ring Road-Southern Loop (SL-3) Construction of the Road from Raiwind Road up to Multan Road project, which had a total estimated cost of Rs. 17,785.850 million without FEC, was taken into consideration and approved by ECNEC. The Government of Punjab’s C&W Dept. will carry out the project in District Lahore, and the Government of Punjab ADP will provide all funding.
The Prime Minister’s National Programme for Solarization Agriculture Tube Wells in Punjab, Sindh, KP, and Balochistan was another project that the ECNEC reviewed and approved. It also permitted the inclusion of existing pumping systems on small dams, ponds, and river/stream/nullah ponds that serve the same purpose as tube wells.
The ECNEC also took into account and approved a project from the Ministry of Communications called Construction of Khawazakhela-Besham Expressway (48 km) at a cost of Rs. 79,130.878 million without FEC. The National Highway Authority will carry out the project in the KP Province districts of Shangla and Swat. The Federal PSDP will be used to fund the entire project.
The Higher Education Commission, NEST, and the Ministry of Federal Education & Professional Training are working together to implement the Pakistan Education Fund, a project of the Ministry of Federal Education & Professional Training that will cost Rs. 14,000 million and be implemented throughout Pakistan. Federal PSDP 2023–24 will fund the project in order to fund scholarships.
The Ministry of Communications’ Lahore-Sahiwal-Bahwalnagar Motorway (295 km) Phase-I project, which will be built in the Punjab Province’s districts of Bahawalpur, Kasur, Lahore, Okara, Pakpattan, and Sahiwal, was also taken into consideration and approved. The Federal PSDP will pay for the project.
