Sharjeel Memon, Sindh Transport Minister, stated on Thursday that the Sindh Government will start an e-taxi service for passengers in Karachi, including pink-colored cabs designed exclusively for female passengers.

According to the specifics, the first phase of the initiative would see the introduction of over 200 electric taxis, 50 of which will be designated as pink e-taxis and will run exclusively for women in Karachi.

The goal of the move is to give females in the city with a simple and dependable mode of transportation. “A modern, affordable, and environmentally friendly electric taxi service will be launched in Karachi and expanded to the province’s other major cities,” Memon told the media.

In addition to the e-taxi service, the Sindh Government has chosen to modernize and expand its present public bus service under the Peoples Bus Service by purchasing 500 new buses for Rs. 25 billion.

“The electric taxi service will provide affordable travel facilities to people,” he said, adding that the project will also provide job opportunities to the unemployed youth, while eco-friendly taxis will save oil worth billions of rupees.
