‘Dune 2’ delayed until March 2024 as WGA strikes continue

To 2024, “Dune: Part Two” has been postponed.

Timothée Chalamet’s portrayal of Paul Atreides’ narrative will continue on March 15.

Warner Bros. announced on Thursday that it was considering making the sci-fi tentpole available in 2024, as was previously reported last month. Co-produced by Warner Bros. Film Group and Legendary Entertainment, “Dune: Part Two” needed a new release date that was acceptable to both organizations.

The original release date of “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” will now be April 12 as a result of the change. The movie, which is also produced by Legendary and Warner Bros., is the most recent entry in the Monsterverse series.

The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes are still going strong, and now there is a “Dune” delay.

Due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, which forbids performers from doing publicity for any struck films, the “Dune” cast’s impressive roster would not have been present on the press circuit for the high-profile film.

The fall releases of “The Equaliser 3,” “Wonka,” and “The Marvels” are scheduled for IMAX, so the date change is not expected to have a significant impact on IMAX (provided that none of those films move on the schedule, as well). According to both WB and Legendary, the Easter break and the upcoming school year’s spring break will boost both titles.

Along with Chalamet, the cast of “Dune: Part Two” also includes Zendaya, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson, and Javier Bardem. Lea Seydoux, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, and others.

The company has decided to stick with the December 25 release date for “The Color Purple” and the December 20 release date for “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.” Warner Bros. was thinking about pushing back both movies to 2024, though.

The only other major studio to delay several of its movies was Sony, which last month also pulled “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse” from theaters and put a sequel to “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” and “Kraven the Hunter” on hold until 2024. In addition, MGM’s tennis drama “Challengers,” which also stars Zendaya, has been postponed to next year. “Dune: Part Two” isn’t the only movie with Zendaya that has been delayed.
