For the purpose of handling inheritance issues, Dubai Courts have established a special division for non-Muslim expatriates in the emirates.
The newly established department enables non-Muslims to draft and carry out their own laws-based wills. It lays out precise guidelines to ensure that the wishes of non-Muslims regarding inheritance are correctly carried out.
Additionally, it provides a specific platform for non-Muslims to create and formally manage their wills through Dubai Courts.
The Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has stated that this decision is in line with his vision, according to Judge Mohammed Jassim Al-Shamsi, who is in charge of Dubai’s Special Court of Inheritance.
This department’s main objective is to make the process simpler for people. Sheikh Mohammed’s Law No. 15 of 2017 regulates all non-Muslim wills and inheritance matters in Dubai, including those involving the Dubai International Financial Center.
The law streamlines the processes for resolving will and inheritance disputes and gives non-Muslims the freedom to draft their wills within a clear legal framework.
The law also encourages non-Muslims to manage their assets in Dubai and register their wills, addressing legal issues surrounding inheritance cases and coming up with workable solutions.
