Dua Bhutto, Pakistan Tehreek e Insaaf lawmaker, has filed a divorce petition against Haleem Adil Sheikh, the head of the opposition in the Sindh Assembly.
According to reports, Bhutto went to a family court in the Malir neighbourhood to file the divorce case.
He has a son with Dua Bhutto, with whom he is currently married for the second time. After the birth of their son, Kamil Haleem Sheikh, in September 2021, Bhutto and Sheikh revealed their secret union. After the 2018 general elections, Shiekh wed Bhutto.
Bhutto recently spoke out against the alleged abuse Haleem Adil Sheikh endured at the hands of Sindh police.
Sheikh responded to the divorce petition by expressing his profound disappointment with the situation. The leader of PTI said, “I never even considered that this would occur, or that a conspiracy-related act of coercion against Dua had taken place. I had absolutely no communication with my wife while I was incarcerated.”
Sheikh expressed his confusion by saying, “I was initially targeted by the Sindh government, who also filed lawsuits against me and jailed me. Despite all of this, I did not stop or budge. I have not done anything of the such, everyone; the decision is up to Allah and the legal system. I can’t take pressure, fear, or persecution.”
Shaikh went on to say that despite the fact that divorce and marriage are both legal acts, he is disappointed. “I am here in Lahore in connection with the Azadi March,” the 56-year-old political figure concluded.
Dua Bhutto was chosen as a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate for the Sindh Provincial Assembly in 2018.
Since January 2021, Haleem Sheikh has presided as the opposition’s leader in the province assembly.
