Endocrinologist Dr. Tasnim Ahsan received the coveted Laureate Award 2023 from the Endocrine Society, a first for Pakistan.
For this year’s Laureate Awards, a total of 12 health specialists and professionals were chosen for honours. Dr. Ahsan is one of the successful endocrine researchers and physicians recognised by the award.
The “International Excellence in Endocrinology” award was given to the founding dean of the Medicell Institute of Diabetes Endocrinology & Metabolism in Karachi and professor emerita at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for their outstanding contributions to the field in regions with limited resources for hormone health research, education, clinical practise, or administration.
Dr. Ahsan has helped create and advance the discipline of endocrinology in Pakistan and is a clinician and professor of reputation worldwide.
Over 100 postgraduate student doctors in internal medicine and endocrinology have received training from the doctor since she opened her first endocrinology practise in the public sector hospital JPMC in 1993.
She treats a sizable transgender community at the Medicell Institute and is committed to increasing access to healthcare. She was also one of the organization’s original members.
