A TikTok-famous plastic surgeon had her Ohio medical license suspended on Wednesday after she allegedly harmed patients while live-streaming surgery.
The State Medical Board of Ohio voted to permanently remove Dr. Katharine Roxanne Grawe’s (aka Dr. Roxy) medical license for “failure to meet standards of care.”
Grawe’s license was originally suspended in November 2022, but Wednesday’s ruling means she will never be able to practice medicine in Ohio again.
According to board members, Grawe prioritized her social media followers over her actual patients, resulting in life-altering mistakes.
In her recordings, the doctor would speak directly to the camera, addressing questions from viewers while her patients were on the operating table.
According to a notice from the medical board sent when her license was suspended, one patient whose cosmetic treatment Grawe televised to her more than 800,000 followers required emergency care a week after surgery after Grawe allegedly perforated her bowel.
According to the notice, the unidentified patient got bacterial illnesses in her belly and lost mental function as a result of the toxins in her blood.
According to the notice, two more patients had devastating problems as a result of Grawe’s alleged lack of care.
One patient who had a Brazilian Butt Lift and liposuction performed by Grawe required repeated stomach surgeries after the cosmetic treatments, which caused extreme abdominal agony the next day.
Grawe, who made her TikTok account private after her license was suspended, had previously received warnings from the board for her social media usage.
The state board notified her in 2018 that it was concerned about patient privacy and ethics concerns surrounding her videotaped procedures. In 2021, the board secretary suggested that the plastic surgeon take a class on medical professionalism and ethics.
According to the New York Times, rawe completed seminars involving “ethical social media” in December of that year but continued to stream surgery she performed on patients live for her fans until October 2022.The social media influencer surgeon told the newspaper that her husband had left her owing to the stress of the situation, and that her children had been tormented at school as a result of the media attention.
She stated that she intended to use her films to educate her followers about cosmetic surgery.
“But, as I stand here today, I see how many of those videos appeared silly and unprofessional,” she added, according to the Times.
