Dr. Kabir Ahmed Sidhu has been named the new Chairman of the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) for a term of three years, effective immediately, according to a notification from the Ministry of Finance.
The Finance Ministry sent out a notification in this regard on Tuesday.
On July 14th, Rahat Kaunain Hassan’s term as CCP Chairman came to an end. Following Hassan’s departure, the federal cabinet approved a summary through circulation and appointed four CCP members.
The federal government appointed Dr. Kabir Ahmed Sidhu, Salman Ameen, Caption (retd) Saeed Ahmed Nawaz, and Abdul Rasheed Sheikh as members of the CCP for a term of three years with immediate effect, according to a notification released at the time by the Finance Division.
The new chairperson of the CCP is likely to be chosen from the aforementioned four CCP members, according to the report.
The crucial task of fostering competition and addressing anti-competitive behavior has been given to the CCP. The CCP has persisted in its efforts to enforce penalties against vested interests and cartels in accordance with its mandate under the Competition Act of 2010, despite their attempts to stall enforcement through court-issued stay orders.
