Following the tragic death of one of his patients, a doctor in Florida was penalised and prohibited from conducting the contentious Brazilian butt lift treatment, but he will retain his medical licence.
In response to allegations that he punctured a patient’s liver and intestines on June 16, 2021, who was 33 years old at the time, Dr. John Sampson was disciplined.
Patients spend as little as $3,500 for the surgery, which he carried out at Seduction Cosmetic Surgery in Coral Gables, where a doctor was previously barred in 2017 for similar offences.
According to a complaint made against him, Sampson was the “designated physician” at Seduction, which meant that he wasn’t permitted to conduct operations himself.
But the allegation revealed that he underwent a number of operations between April and June of 2021, including seven on the day his patient passed away.
In June of this year, the Florida Board of Medicine issued an emergency order limiting physicians to three BBL operations each day.
According to the website, Seduction will perform BBLs for as little as $4,500, with discounts up to $3,500 available on Sampson’s Instagram, where he identifies many of his patients as either “Sampson Doll” or “Sampson Stallion.”
According to the lawsuit, Sampson allegedly perforated the liver and intestines of a patient only known as “E.R.” and injected abdominal fat into her gluteal muscles, according to the Miami Herald.
In Florida, this particular BBL variant has been forbidden since 2019. At the age of 33, the patient passed away that same evening.
The complaint further implied that
Sampson states in his bio on the Seduction website: “I entered the fields of cosmetic and plastic reconstructive surgery because I wanted to have a long-lasting, beneficial impact on people’s life.
“That’s why I constantly work so hard to develop a customised strategy for every single one of my patients, so that when we’re done, I know that they will move on in life with better confidence and genuinely find joy in the person that they are,” she said.
Sampson is also described as a “board certified surgeon” on the same website, yet his sole board qualification is indicated to be “suspended” in his Florida Department of Health profile.
Unlike Seduction, where a doctor’s right to practise medicine was taken away, Sampson had never before faced punishment.
