In a message on his Facebook artist profile earlier today, September 21, Roy’s family made the announcement official. Uncertainty surrounds the cause of death.
“Jamie passed away yesterday,” the family wrote. “Jamie was a much loved and talented son, brother, nephew and uncle and loved by his many friends and colleagues both within the music industry and beyond that. We are all absolutely heartbroken.”
Roy, a Scottish native from Dumfries, was most known for being a well-liked DJ on the Ibiza club scene. He performed at events including We Love… at Space, Steve Lawler’s Warriors party, and Nic Fanciulli’s Dance Or Die residency, among many others. Additionally, he performed at events both inside and outside the UK, such as Circus in Liverpool, BPM Costa Rica, and Albania’s Unum Festival.
Grego O’Halloran, director of Unum, stated to Resident Advisor that he “booked Jamie despite the fact that his music and performance weren’t the best fits for the festival. But Jamie quickly rose to prominence as one of the most in-demand performers, completely changing the festival’s mission and target audience. He delivered his insatiable “Organ Belta” anthem to the masses and created absolute afterhours party chaos as a result.”
He added: “[Jamie was] a DJ who was prepared to endure many Ibiza seasons in the process of achieving his well-deserved acclaim. Eternally popular with a shrewd production outlook, it’s so tragic that such a talented artist has had their development halted so abruptly. We miss you already Jamie.”
Producer Roy has got music out on labels including Patrick Topping’s Trick, Skream’s Of Unsound Mind, and Under No Illusion. In 2021, Trick released “Organ Belta,” which is perhaps Roy’s biggest track.
