There is a “secret” button on MILLIONS of Android phones that you might have overlooked.
Although much more difficult to see than the power button or your volume toggles, it is quite helpful.
Many people are unaware that an Android phone’s rear is really one big button.
Google has integrated a “back tap” capability a la iPhone directly into the gadget.
The Quick Tap accessibility feature is meant to make the phone simpler to operate, but practically anyone might find a valid excuse to turn it on.
To carry out a variety of tasks, you only need to double-tap the phone’s back.
That includes:
- Taking screenshots
- Accessing digital assistant
- Playing or pausing media
- Seeing recent apps
- Showing notifications
- Toggling the flashlight
- Opening a specific app
How to use Quick Tap on Android
First, make sure you can actually use it.
When Android 12 was released in 2021, it was only afterwards added (with flashlight functionality added in Android 13).
So check that your version of Android is current; otherwise, you might not be able to access it.
The next step is to turn it on.
System > Gestures > Quick Tap may be found in the Settings app.
Now switch Select your preferred action by switching Quick Tap to the on position.
You can return to settings and adjust the sensitivity of the feature if you frequently unintentionally activate Quick Tap.
There is an option to make Quick Tap “need stronger taps” in order to function.
How to activate Back Tap on iPhone
You can do it too if you own an iPhone and just happened to find this post.
Make sure you have iOS 14 or later installed before activating the functionality. Go to Settings > General > Software update to accomplish that.
then open the Settings app on your iPhone.
Scroll down and tap “Accessibility” and then click “Touch”.
Then scroll down to “Back Tap”.
You’ll have the choice to turn on “Double Tap” or “Triple Tap”.
Whichever you select gives you the same options.
Click to see which features you can now control with either a double or triple tap on the back of your phone.
They include taking screenshots, turning the volume up or down, magnifying, scrolling and more.
As an illustration, select “Double Tap” and then check “Shazam Shortcut” or “Screenshot” if you wished to use a Double Tap to take screenshots.
Now, taking a screenshot should only need twice-tapping the back of your phone.
