According to the sheriff’s office, a pregnant 16-year-old girl who had been reported missing was discovered shot to death outside of a residence in Orange County last week.
De’Shayla Ferguson, who was discovered dead next to a car on October 25, was pregnant, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to News 6 on Thursday. However, investigators did not specify how far along she was. The adolescent was shot on Broken Pine Circle, which is located close to Clarcona Ocoee Road just west of Hiawassee Road.
The girl had just turned 16 years old.
News 6 discovered According to authorities, Ferguson was a party to a human trafficking investigation and was last saw leaving a Florida Department of Children and Families office in August. She visited the office on August 12 as a transfer from Seminole County, according to a missing persons report, and was supposed to be put with a family before she appeared in court the following day. Employees claimed that after clashing with office personnel, Ferguson exited the building.
The report stated that Ferguson was categorised as missing, a state-designated ward, and a frequent fugitive.
According to the article, Ferguson was also implicated in a human trafficking case, but the Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation declined to give any other information.
“MBI applies the definition of Human Trafficking contained in (Florida Statute) 787.06,” a spokeswoman said in a statement. MBI would not comment on an investigation that the Orange County Sheriff’s Office is conducting.
No arrests had been made in connection with the girl’s slaying as of Thursday.
Calling the sheriff’s office or 911 is encouraged for anyone with information.
