A robbery that allegedly went bad on the campus of Delaware State University resulted in at least two persons being shot.
The university police are currently withholding the victims’ conditions after they were both taken to the Kent Campus of Bayhealth Hospital.
On Saturday about 1.45 am, police reacted to the gunfire outside the Wellness and Recreation Center.
Around 5.21 am, a Delaware State University (DSU) emergency notice was received, noting that the gunshot had taken place during a heist.
Only two victims—both DSU students—were reported after the institution first said four people had been shot.
The DSU President, Dr. Tony Allen, stated in a letter:
“First, let me say that my thoughts this morning are with the students and families as well as any other members of our University community affected by this moment.
“At Delaware State University, we are a family. An event that affects the safety of one of us affects all of us.
“When moments like these emerge, they are understandably fraught with anxiety and indignation.”
The campus community was reassured by President Allen that the school is a safe place and that justice will be served.
“I share your feelings, and, at the same time, I can assure students and families that the University is committed to creating and maintaining a safe campus environment,” Allen said.
Dover Police Department spokesperson Master Cpl. Ryan Schmid said:
“Our role at the campus was scene security and rendering aid to the victims.”
As of yet, no suspects have been identified.
The football game against Lincoln University on Saturday night will have more protection.
