In Kentucky’s Mammoth Cave National Park, a deceased helicopter pilot was discovered.
In a statement, the National Park Service stated that on Monday around 4 p.m. CT, law enforcement personnel from the park were notified that a helicopter crash with one fatality had been located inside the park’s southern boundary.
David Stone, the pilot, was discovered dead at the scene.
Prior to losing communication with his aircraft on Saturday, Stone, a resident of Louisville, Tennessee, was travelling alone from St. Louis, Missouri, to Knoxville, Tennessee.
Around 10:30 a.m. on that Monday, park authorities received their first alert on the probable downed helicopter.
According to eyewitness testimony and data from the previous position, the helicopter was near to Mammoth Cave National Park.
Searches were conducted in park areas that could be reached by roads and trails by park officials, Barren and Glasgow County Emergency Management, Edmonson County Emergency Management, and Kentucky State Police.
