After ingesting veterinary-grade ivermectin, a prominent social media figure who had been preaching against modern science and Covid-19 vaccinations was discovered dead.
Danny Lemoi, a resident of Rhode Island who had previously used veterinary ivermectin, passed away unexpectedly on March 3.
Ivermectin use as an alternative therapy was strongly supported by Lemoi, who also founded one of the biggest social media platforms for the drug’s promotion.
Anti-vaxxers frequently turn to ivermectin, a drug primarily used to treat parasitic diseases in animals like horses, as an alternative Covid-19 treatment.
The use of the drug has been condemned by numerous influential health organisations, including the Food and Drug Administration, the World Health Organization, the US Centers for Disease Control, and the European Medicines Agency.
Despite Lemoi’s passing, the Telegram channel is still spreading false information about the drug.
After receiving a Lyme disease diagnosis in 2012, Lemoi started taking the medication every day.
He asserted that the medication had restored his heart muscle, causing him to discontinue all other therapies.
However, many known side effects from ingesting veterinary ivermectin have been reported by Lemoi’s supporters.
The belief that every disease is brought on by a parasite that ivermectin removes from the body has led some group members to use it as a panacea for almost all illnesses.
Vice reports that members of the group have also adopted Lemoi’s suggested dosage for kids.
Many anti-vaxxers have been using and advising veterinary ivermectin despite repeated FDA warnings that it is neither a cure nor an effective treatment for Covid-19.
In his pro-ivermectin Telegram group, some of Lemoi’s supporters claimed to have experienced a range of negative side effects, including seizures, comas, lung problems, and heart issues.
They expressed their worries about the drug’s safety and doubted its efficacy in treating Covid-19.
One group member wrote about having pain in their bones, legs, and waist, while the wife of another had severe symptoms like a migraine, nausea, and stomach pain.
