Police searching for a guy who went missing after traveling to Ukraine to help out have discovered a body.
After visiting Ukraine in August, Daniel Burke, a former paratrooper from Manchester, was reported missing by his family. The discovery of a body has been reported to Ukrainian authorities, according to Greater Manchester Police. In the Ukrainian area of Zaporizhzhia, Daniel, 36, was employed. After a month had passed since her son vanished, Diane, his mother, admitted to going through a “nightmare” in an interview with the Manchester Evening News.
Diane said: “His boss had plans for him to travel elsewhere because he had done such a good job in Ukraine. She has dozens of voicenotes from him because he had to report to her every day. But I can’t cope with listening to his voice. It’s four weeks since he went missing. I just want to know that all that can be done to find him is being done. It’s been an absolute nightmare. I don’t want it to be just brushed under the carpet. Nobody can just disappear into thin air. There has to be someone, somewhere, who knows something.”
Daniel, who had previously deployed in Syria and Afghanistan, has now been officially certified dead. Officers looking for Daniel Burke have been notified by Ukrainian authorities that they have regrettably discovered a body, according to a statement from GMP. The family of Daniel, a resident of south Manchester, reported him missing on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, thinking he had left for Ukraine. To assist in Daniel’s identification and return to the UK, the Greater Manchester Police are collaborating with the deceased’s family and the Ukrainian authorities.
The GMP’s Lead for Disaster Victim Identificatio, Detective Superintendent Lewis Hughes, added: “This is a distressing moment for Daniel’s family, we have Family Liaison Officers in contact.
“My team and I are working with the Ukrainian authorities to make formal identification with a view to repatriating Daniel following that process. Daniel’s family have asked for privacy at this difficult time.”
