A well-known Chilean gamer was among six persons murdered in a horrible head-on collision Monday morning, which stunned the local community.
According to local reports, Mara Ignacia Celedón, also known as Maru Rockets on social media, died after the cab she was riding in collided with another automobile on Route 9 in Chile’s Punta Arenas region.
According to El Desconcierto Chile, the incident was caused in part by ice on the road, and speed was also a factor.
According to the publication, Celedón and all four individuals in the second automobile died at the spot. According to BolaVIP, the cab driver died on the route to the hospital.
The crash injured the 28-year-old gamer’s boyfriend and a buddy who were also in the taxi. Both are video game streamers. Her boyfriend Ignacio Carrasco, also known on social media as Dime Nacho, and friend Shin Yang, also known as Shinipan, were both rushed to a nearby hospital.
The trio had traveled to Patagonia and were taking the taxi to the airport to fly back to Santiago when it crashed with the second car, according to El Desconcierto.
Celedón, who had over 13,000 Instagram followers and 21,500 TikTok followers before her death, earned a cinema degree from the University of Chile and frequently appeared on Nexoplay, the Latin American channel for video game entertainment.
The gamer rose to prominence by playing the video game Valorant, which she streamed on YouTube before transferring to Twitch.
Celedón was recalled in an Instagram post Monday by the live gaming convention Expogame, where he had competed.
“You were one in a million, you really taught us so much with your charisma, your professionalism and your distinctive stamp of humor and joy that you always put into everything you did,” Expogame wrote in Spanish. “…Beyond work you were a great friend to the Expogame family, and that’s what has us heartbroken today.”
The fatal crash is under investigation.
