Police in Canada’s central Saskatchewan province report that a stabbing spree has left at least 10 people dead and 15 more injured.
The victims were discovered in 13 different places, including Weldon and James Smith Cree Nation.
Police have identified two suspects as Damien Sanderson, 31, and Myles Sanderson, 30, who are fugitives and are thought to be armed and dangerous.
Under a dangerous person alert, locals have been instructed to shelter in place.
“Do not leave a secure location. Use caution allowing others into your residence,” Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Saskatchewan said, urging residents not to pick up hitchhikers.
“The suspects may be in black Nissan Rogue [vehicle],” the police said, warning anyone who sees the men or the car to stay away and call police.
Rhonda Blackmore, the commanding officer of the Saskatchewan RCMP, issued a warning during a news briefing later on Sunday, stating there may have been further injured people who had gone to the hospital by themselves.
She claimed that while some individuals may have been the targets of the two men, others were “attacked indiscriminately.”
According to Ms. Blackmore, the initial complaint of a stabbing was made to emergency services in Regina, the provincial capital, at 05:40 local time on Sunday (11:40 GMT). More calls soon followed this one.
James Smith Cree Nation has declared a state of emergency, expanding a previous local alert to include the entire province.
“Their location and direction of travel is unknown. This is why we need everyone in the province to stay vigilant,” Ms Blackmore told the media.
“If you see the suspects or their vehicle, do not approach them, immediately leave the area and call 911.”
