What caused Damien Medwin’s death?
At the age of 38, Damien Medwin was killed in a fatal car accident. On Sunday, August 27, 2023, around 9.30 am, in Smithton, Tasmania’s northwest, his car was discovered submerged in a lake.
According to Tasmania Police, the vehicle was traveling west on Blackline Road when it veered off the road and into the water.
“A crash investigation is being conducted as is the usual process, to determine the cause of the crash, and police will prepare a report for the Coroner who will determine the cause of death,” a police spokeswoman told Daily Mail Australia.
For which teams did Damien Medwin compete?
Boony, also known as Medwin, was a player and assistant coach for the Circular Head Football Club as well as a senior assistant at the Forest Stanley Football Club.
The Australian rules player made 289 appearances for the Saints, and the team revealed that the day before he passed away, he stepped in to play for the reserves.
He made his senior debut in 2005 at the age of 19, and in 2009, he scored 88 goals to win the club’s goalkicking award.
After being signed by East Devonport Football Club, the former Smithton and Circular Head Giants goal-kicking machine played his 200th Senior NWFL/NTFL game in 2019.
Along with Palmerston Magpies and North L’ton & Scottsdale, Boony also played senior football.
The club and small community of Circular Head Saints released the following statement on Facebook: “We are absolutely devastated by the sudden and tragic passing of our life member, teammate, club legend, and friend.
“Boony was a unique larrikin who made everyone in the room smile and laugh.
“Knowing him and having so many wonderful memories with such a treasured friend has improved our lives.”
“Everyone’s mate, our coach & player,” the Forest-Stanley Football Club said in a tribute. Our number 13 was always optimistic about you.
“You welcomed people so warmly. When all seemed lost, you gave us hope.
“The club sends Bec and their children Hudson, Jordy, and Marni our deepest sympathies.
“To the entire family, please know that we are deeply sorry for your suffering. Just know that we are all smiling and crying as we remember what a wonderful man Damien (Boony) was.
He was praised by East Devonport as a “fantastic bloke on and off the field” who will “be missed by all.”
Damien Medwin had children, was he married?
Damien had three kids and was married. Hudson, Jordy, and Marni were his three young children; he was married to Bec.
The Medwin family has so far received close to $60,000 from a GoFundMe page.
