On September 12, 2023, a ceremony held in Romania saw the PNS Hunain, a patrol ship, being launched into the sea by Damen Shipyards Galati.
This ship is a member of Damen’s Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPV) 2600 series, which are produced for the Pakistan Navy.
Additionally, it is not their first time out; in 2020, it successfully delivered two ships of a similar design, the PNS Yarmook and PNS Tabuk.
Several dignitaries, including Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi, the Chief of Naval Staff of Pakistan, attended the event. Important figures from the Pakistan Navy, representatives of the Romanian government, Navy officials, members of the Pakistani community in Romania, and the Damen team were also present.
The Admiral was very complimentary of Damen at the event and was particularly impressed with how quickly it constructed the PNS Hunain.
The importance of this ship’s role was also emphasized by the admiral. He said it wasn’t just about showing off naval might; it was also about ensuring the stability of the area and the safety of trade routes in the Indian Ocean.
The director of Damen’s operations, Marc van Heyningen, expressed his appreciation. He acknowledged the Admiral’s attendance and referred to Damen’s longstanding partnership with the Pakistan Navy.
The launch of this ship is a source of pride for all parties involved, said Stephan Stout, Regional Sales Director for Damen.
