A Californian man was detained on Sunday after reportedly planning a mass shooting “in the vein of Las Vegas” and threatening to kill law enforcement, according to the police.
Dallas Marsh, 37, was apprehended by SWAT personnel at a Chico Super 8 motel after detectives discovered proof of his scheme, according to a police statement.
The Chico Police Department released a statement stating that there was unspecified information that he had made “criminal threats to kill particular individuals, identified law enforcement officers, and was prepared to perpetrate a ‘Las Vegas type’ mass shooting with a defined deadline.”
The deadline was not disclosed by the authorities, but Saturday will commemorate the fifth anniversary of the Las Vegas shooting.
When 64-year-old Stephen Paddock opened fire on the Route 91 Harvest music festival from a high-rise hotel on the Vegas Strip on October 1, 2017, sixty people were murdered and over 400 more were injured.
Marsh allegedly beat one officer with a table during an interview and threatened to kill more cops and their families following his detention, according to the Chico police.
No immediate information was available regarding a potential reason for Marsh’s suspected scheme.
He might be charged with violence on a peace officer and making criminal threats. At the Butte County Jail, he was being held without bond.
Marsh appears to have a Facebook account that has details and numerous images that point to his military service history.
