According to police sources, the banker who died after falling from a Manhattan rooftop club has been named as Dale L. Cheney, a Connecticut father of three who had filed for divorce from his wife.
Around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Cheney, 46, fell from Bar 54 at the Hyatt Centric Times Square New York on West 45th Street near Seventh Avenue in front of at least two witnesses, according to the sources and authorities.
He fell to the ground below and was later declared dead, according to the police.
A spokeswoman for the NYPD stated that the death is being looked at as a possible suicide.
According to Connecticut court records, Cheney passed away the day after he filed for divorce from his wife, Lauren Cheney.
Police were called to his previous Upper East Side home twice in 2008 due to domestic confrontations with his wife, according to law enforcement sources who spoke to The Post. One of the disagreements involved money.
T-street Capital was established in 2013 by Cheney in Darien, Connecticut, a town that is located roughly 40 miles northeast of Manhattan.
Through capital investments, strategic acquisitions, and other opportunities, the independent growth equity firm collaborates with management teams and business owners.
According to his LinkedIn page, Cheney also served as a board member and investor at six different businesses in four states.
He worked as an investment principal at Citicorp Venture Capital from 2007 till he founded his own company. Before that, he spent two years at Goldman Sachs beginning in 2005.
According to his web page, he graduated from Harvard University with a master’s in business administration.
According to records, Cheney resided in a large six-bedroom, seven-bathroom apartment in New Canaan, Connecticut. According to its Zillow listing, the 8,100 square foot house has an estimated market worth of more than $3.8 million.
On Thursday, a reporter from The Post stopped by the posh address where they saw sporting equipment lying around and a Jeep Grand Cherokee in the driveway.
A woman who has not been identified turned the reporter away after she knocked on the door and stated Lauren, 44, wasn’t home.
According to police sources, the couple has three children who are in their late teens and early 20s.
Two patrons at the rooftop pub told authorities that the man jumped off the building just before the tragic fall, according to sources. One woman reported hearing a loud noise and dialled 911.
Hyatt Centric Times Square general manager Tom Blundell issued a statement saying, “We are profoundly devastated at the event that transpired this evening outside our rooftop bar, and we are keeping the victim’s family and friends in our thoughts and emotions.”
“We are working closely with local authorities. The safety and wellbeing of all our colleagues, hotel guests and Bar 54 guests remains a top priority, and at this time, as a result of this tragic incident, we will keep the door to the bar’s outdoor space locked at all times,” Blundell said through a spokesperson.
In less than four months, someone has fallen from the same hotel bar twice.
According to the NYPD, aspiring model Elizabeth Gaglewski from Queens fell from Bar 54 and struck a balcony on the 27th level. As the 26-year-old woman stood on the brink, staff attempted to leap in and prevent her from falling, sources told The Post in October.
Family members described Gaglewski as “kind and loving.”
“She was just a good person, a sweet and loving, caring kid,” her uncle Tony Smith told The Post last year.
