The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) of Pakistan stated during a special NEOC session that there is currently no threat to Pakistan’s coastal regions from the approaching storm brought on by Cyclone Biparjoy.
During any potential emergency scenarios brought on by the cyclone, the general people was asked to keep informed and heed the advice of local authorities during the session’s focus on preventative measures to manage catastrophes successfully.
Lt. Gen. Inam Haider Malik, the chairman of the NDMA, and other important participants presided over the meeting. He gave the Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) instructions to assess local needs and send personnel and equipment as needed.
In the past 12 hours, Cyclone Biparjoy has advanced northeasterly into Pakistan over the Arabian Sea, posing a serious cyclonic threat to the nation’s coastal regions.
Chief meteorologist Dr. S. Sarfaraz of the Met department said:
It’s likely to move further in the north-northwest direction. Sea conditions are very high around the system centre with maximum wave height 25-28 feet. If the distance (between the cyclone and the city) reduces to 600km, we may experience high clouds. The system is likely to take four days to reach Oman and then it may influence weather conditions in the coastal areas of Balochistan.
However, as mentioned earlier, those regions are still safe from the cyclone, at least for now.
