A warning has been issued by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for Jinnah International Airport in Karachi as Cyclone Biparjoy moves closer to the coasts of Pakistan and India. Within the next 24 hours, the cyclone is predicted to intensify into an “extremely severe cyclonic storm.”

Concerned parties have been advised by the CAA to maintain vigilance and exercise caution in order to handle any emergency situations that may arise during the cyclone. In order to help small aircraft and helicopters withstand strong winds, they have also directed the addition of extra weight to those vehicles.

Prior to the impending bad weather, the electrical department has been instructed to fix any damaged wires and check the condition of the beacon lights at the airport’s control tower and other tall structures.

From June 13 to June 17, the cyclone is expected to dump a lot of rain in a number of Sindh districts, including Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, Tharparker, and Umerkot. Strong winds and extremely heavy rainfall could occur in these areas.

The cyclone is anticipated to bring thunderstorms, rain, and strong winds of 60-80 km/h to Karachi, Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, and Mirpurkhas districts from June 13/14 to June 16.

The cyclone is currently situated close to latitude 18.1°N and longitude 67.5°E, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). For the next 24 hours, it is expected to keep moving in a north-northeast direction before turning northeast on June 14. On June 15, the cyclone is predicted to make landfall as a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm (VSCS) halfway between Keti Bandar in southeast Sindh and the Indian Gujarat coast.
