Since its launch in 2016, TikTok has amassed more than 500 million active monthly users worldwide and caught the attention of tech giants like Facebook and Google. However, Zhang Yiming, the multi-millionaire who founded TikTok and its parent company ByteDance, is much less well-known than the video-sharing website that has developed into the most well-known app in the world.
Zhang, a software engineer with a degree from Tianjin’s Nankai University, is in charge of about 24% of the business ByteDance. By elevating him to ninth place on Forbes’ current list of billionaires in China. According to estimates, Zhang is worth $16.2 billion.
The 35-year-old has had tremendous success since launching the company in 2012, landing him a spot on the Forbes China 30 Under 30 list in 2013. According to Pitchbook, the Beijing-based company has raised a total of $7.5 billion and is valued at $75 billion by investors.
