An extra claim of aggravated kidnapping and rape in a “unrelated” case has been brought against the man suspected of kidnapping and killing Memphis mother Eliza Fletcher, according to a report.
Memphis police confirmed to Fox News that Cleotha Abston, 38, is facing the further charges, but they did not provide any additional information besides stating that the new offences are unrelated to Fletcher’s case.
Abston, who received 20 years in prison in 2000 for particularly aggravated kidnapping, is accused of killing Fletcher, the granddaughter of a deceased tycoon.
Around 4:20 a.m., Fletcher began his morning exercise. according to Memphis police, she was pushed into a dark GMC Terrain on September 2. Her broken phone and water bottle were also discovered close by.
Fletcher, a 34-year-old married mother of two who was caught on camera, was seen being pushed into the automobile.
The following day, Abston was apprehended after DNA connected him to two slides left close to the kidnapping scene. He refused to provide detectives with her location.
In a location close to where Abston, according to police, was allegedly seen in surveillance film ferociously cleaning out the GMC Terrain, her body was discovered on Monday in the “back of an empty duplex unit.”
According to an affidavit, the suspect’s brother, who was accused separately with drug and weapons violations, was one of those who reported Abston was acting “weird” and washing his clothes hours after the kidnapping.
Authorities explained that Abston and Fletchers were strangers when they stated on Tuesday that the alleged attack appeared to be random.
It’s unknown how or where Fletcher passed away.
