Clara Sorrenti, also known as ‘Kefflas,’ was falsely identified as the suspect in the Covenant School shooting in Nashville on Monday. Several Twitter users disseminated false information. The suspect has yet to be identified by police.
Authorities confirmed that a 28-year-old woman fatally shot three students and as many staff members at the Covenant School. Neither the suspect nor the victims were identified right away.
“3 students & 3 adult staff members from Covenant School were fatally shot by the active shooter, who has now been identified as a 28-year-old Nashville woman,” police said in a tweet.
Social media users now are spreading misinformation, saying that a Canadian trans activist and Twitch streamer, Clara Sorrenti ‘Keffals’ is the suspect.
“I’m hearing from a Nashville police officer that the shooter was a trans woman that went by the name of Keffals. Could this be “her” ?” a Twitter user said.
“Why does the shooter share a name Clara Sorrenti with keffals? What?” another one added.
However, others were ready to point out the misinformation.
“This is an image of Canadian trans streamer and commentator Clara Sorrenti aka Keffals, who was recently the subject of a KiwiFarms harassment campaign, and most definitely isn’t the Nashville shooter,” a Twitter user said along with Sorrenti’s picture.
“Should be faster since disinformation is hard to fight once it spreads. They then call it a deep state when they state the facts. This happened with the Uvalde shooter. A trans person was accused and harassed threaten and life put at risk. Community notes needs to be faster,” another one added.
Sorrenti’s Twitter bio says that she is a livestreamer, socialist and anti-racist.
“in the next few days I will be admitted to rehab. the doctor said that because of the drugs I am addicted to, without medical supervision detoxing will kill me. I will be off social media for 30-45 days while I work on getting better,” she had tweeted on February 22.
