Babar Azam is now the T20 cricket player with the fastest 9000 runs milestone in history.
The Peshawar Zalmi captain accomplished the milestone during his 64-run innings against Islamabad United in the first elimination game of PSL season 8 on Thursday.
Babar has broken the record set by West Indian great Chris Gayle, who needed 249 innings to amass 9000 runs, by accomplishing the milestone in just 245 innings.
The Zalmi captain created the ideal platform for his squad by smashing 10 fours during his 39-ball inning against United. In the 13th over, United’s captain, Shadab Khan, caught him lbw.
The next three players, after Babar and Gayle, to cross the 9k threshold quickly are Virat Kohli (271), David Warner (273), and Aaron Finch (281).
Babar is the batsman in the world with the most T20 hundreds (eight) since 2019. Jos Buttler is in second with six centuries.
