“Agricultural projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor have a positive impact on improving local agricultural technology and upgrading Pakistan’s agricultural industry,” highlighted H.E. Moin ul Haque on a visit to the Pak-China Red Chili Project’s headquarters in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China on Monday.
The chairman of Sichuan Litong Food Company, Chen Changwei, claims that Pakistan has a huge potential to export dried chilies to China because of the two nations’ favorable trade relations. Sichuan Litong Food Company has brought its expertise in chili cultivation and management to Pakistan.
10,000 tonnes of dried peppers are anticipated to be harvested in the second half of 2023 from the 15,000 acres of chili that were planted in South Punjab in 2023.
A growing number of farmers are realizing the value of chili after three years of demonstration planting. Through surveys, trial planting, small-scale planting, and large-scale planting, local small and medium-sized farmers are paying more attention to the demonstration base for chili cultivation.
The ambassador also went to Pixian Douban, a significant hub for the production of bean paste in Litong, to see its production and research facilities. A piece of China’s intangible cultural heritage is the Pixian Douban, which is made with Sichuan red chili. Chen stated that he would be open to expanding the industrial chain to Pakistan.
In order to facilitate the cultivation, promotion, and trade of agricultural products like sorghum, sesame, and peanuts so that more Pakistani agricultural products can be included in the global supply chain, Chen continued, the company has invested in a preliminary chili processing plant in Pakistan.
