According to data recently released by China’s General Administration of Customs (GAC), the country exported 1.07 million vehicles in the first quarter of 2023, up 58.3 percent year over year, making it the world’s largest exporter of automobiles, surpassing Japan.
According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, China exported 376,000 vehicles in just April, an increase of 2.7 times over the same period in 2022. This was made possible by the country’s robust production capacity of 2.13 million cars in a single month.
The majority of vehicles that are exported are new-energy vehicles, with April seeing 100,000 NEV exports, an increase of 8.4 times over the same month in 2022.
China surpassed Germany to take over the position of second-largest car exporter in the world last year. According to GAC data, Germany exported 2.61 million vehicles while China exported 3.22 million, an increase of 56.8% year over year.
