A significant change in the judiciary’s compensation was made on Tuesday when Interim President Sadiq Sanjrani ordered an increase in Supreme Court judges’ pay. The order, officially referred to as the “Salary of Judges of the Supreme Court Order, 2023,” raises the Chief Justice of Pakistan’s monthly salary to Rs. 1,229,189.
The decision of the acting president aims to recognize the Chief Justice’s significant role and duties. The order also specifies that other judges of the Supreme Court will now be paid Rs. 1,161,163 per month.
This modification reflects the government’s recognition of the eminent judges’ skill and commitment to upholding justice and applying the law. The notification makes it clear that the acting president has used his or her authority to implement these changes.
The new salaries, as specified in the order, are effective right away and supersede the old ones that set the judges’ pay. Also confirmed in the notification is the repeal of the “Salary of Judges of the Supreme Court Order, 2022 (PO No. 1 of 2022).”
The previous order set the monthly salary for the Chief Justice of Pakistan at Rs. 1,024,324, while the monthly salary for the other judges was Rs. 967,636.
