At least 36,187 people were killed by the earthquake that occurred in southern Turkey on February 6, according to official figures, while 5,800 people were killed in neighboring Syria. Rescue efforts are underway in a number of locations in both Turkey and Syria. But, as time goes on, there is less and less chance of discovering survivors.
Visuals that are utterly terrible and gut-wrenching are coming from these places. There are images that give us hope among these heartbreaking videos. A rescue worker holding a cat that was rescued from the wreckage in earthquake-stricken Turkey is seen in one such video that has been making the rounds on the internet.
Reddit users posted the rescuer’s video of the cat there. The cat may be seen sitting on the rescuer’s shoulder in the footage.
“We also rescue animals. We saved a Van cat on the fourth day after the earthquake. We returned it to its rightful owner. The next day, we came to this cat’s aid. We gave it the name Enkaz (rubble), as we had brought it from hell. Although it could come out as a little unsettling, this is how we intended it to be remembered. Enkaz and I share everything we eat and drink here. The cat stayed at our side as well. We are also looking for any possible leads in the hopes of locating the cat’s owner. Yet he is staying. This cat appears to be dejected. In particular, I keep it close by in case the owner arrives.” The rescue worker added, “But if the owner doesn’t come out, I’m thinking of bringing him with me, it will be a memory.”
