A sad tragedy that took the life of a baby girl left her parents heartbroken parents still unsure of how their daughter became wedged between a footstool linked to a couch and wall.
Cassidy Blossom Oakley, who was six weeks old, was discovered unresponsive at around 11 p.m. on September 5 of last year. It appeared that she had fallen from a footstool that she was lying on. Dad Jacob claimed he mistakenly fell asleep and felt “higher power” awaken him before he found his daughter on the floor at their Runcorn house.
On Wednesday, the baby’s grieving parents attended an inquest into her death in Warrington, where they paid tribute to their daughter. Megan, Jacob and Cassidy’s mother, wrote a statement that was read aloud in court, describing Cassidy as their “bright, blue-eyed baby girl.”
Cassidy had been born as a twin, but regrettably, due to an earlier miscarriage, she was the only one to survive. Her parents described her as their very own Merida, the princess from Disney’s Brave, and said they wanted to give her “the best start” in life.
They reportedly performed CPR up until the arrival of the paramedics, after which she was quickly taken to Warrington Hospital. Since our baby girl was only six weeks old, Megan said, “She could never have rolled over by herself. When we describe that she was seated on a footstool, we can only assume what is going through your heads.
“To elaborate, it was a footstool part of the couch and there was no way she could’ve rolled off. It was in the corner of the room and she was lay on a baby pillow, the intention was not to keep her on there. Sadly my partner shut his eyes and unintentionally fell asleep. If you all have children you know how exhausting it is.”
Cassidy’s heartbeat returned despite the greatest efforts of her parents and the paramedics, but regrettably she was still not “breathing responsively.” Parents of Cassidy stated physicians told them Cassidy’s heart “didn’t seem so well” and “wasn’t dealing well” while at the hospital.
Concerns were raised that there was a communication breakdown right away since her parents received CPR guidance for a small child rather than a newborn due to a “human error” made by control. It’s terrible that my child’s death was used as a teaching opportunity, Jacob added.
The key thing was that it was “being done,” according to Dr. James Wallace of Warrington Hospital, so the CPR technique probably wouldn’t have made a difference. When Cassidy arrived at the hospital, he said, her pupils were fixed and dilated, and she had a pulse but was not responsive.
