A 37-YEAR-OLD WOMAN died in hospital two days after being shot in a quiet community.
On Thursday evening, Carrie Slater was transported to hospital after police were called to an altercation on Kings Road in Long Clawson, Leicester. She passed away on Saturday evening.
Ms Slater died as a result of a gunshot wound, according to a post-mortem study.
Carrie Slater’s family issued the following statement: “Carrie was loved by all of us.” She was a loving sister and daughter to her brothers.
“We’re still coming to terms with what happened. It’s difficult to put into words how we’re feeling but nothing we say is going to bring her back.
“She grew up in Grantham and we know there are people there who will be devasted to learn that she’s no longer with us.
“We’re supporting one another as we grieve and ask for privacy at this time.”
Richard Basson, of Kings Road, Long Clawson, has been charged with murder, possession of a prohibited weapon of a length less than 0/60cm and possession of ammunition without a certificate.
He is due to appear at Leicester Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.
A 69-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was found dead at a home in nearby Melton Mowbray.
Cops spotted the motionless man at a residence on Wednesday night around 11.50 p.m.
The pensioner who was present at the time was arrested on suspicion of murder.
The East Midlands Ambulance Service called police to the address, and a murder investigation is now underway.
