Camila Giorgi, a tennis star and lingerie model, beams as she celebrates her first WTA title in almost two years, the Merida Open in Mexico.
The 31-year-old Italian, who turned professional in 2006, triumphed 7-6, 1-6, 6-2 after dropping the second set to Swedish qualifier Rebecca Peterson.
The final of the inaugural tournament lasted two hours and 23 minutes, with Giorgi defeating three seeded players, including No. 2 seed Sloane Stephens, in the WTA 250 event.
Giorgi told fans: “I’m so happy to be here, especially my first time in Mexico. What a surprise. This atmosphere — was an amazing week. What a final we did Rebecca.”
The No. 46 had not won a tournament since the Canadian Open in August of 2021, but she has now won four of her ten career WTA finals.
The total tournament prize money of around £200,000, however, will have little impact on her career earnings of over £5 million.
Off the court, Giorgi isn’t afraid to flaunt her body on Instagram, where she has 682k followers after causing a stir in 2021.
When her lingerie photos resurfaced online, one sceptic wrote: “Come on, people! You’re stunning, but do you really need to flaunt your body in public to boost your self-esteem?”
Giorgi has responded by creating more content for her hundreds of thousands of followers while also improving on the court.
