After stealing iPhones from a North East Apple store valued at £15,000, a criminal was sentenced to prison.
When he targeted Apple in Newcastle’s Eldon Square five times in two weeks, Calin-Abel Cosargar was already subject to a community order for shoplifting. The 23-year-old admitted in court that he took 15 iPhones valued more than £15,000 for himself.
However, 10 days after his last theft, the thief was found and taken into custody; he then showed up in court while still in detention. At Newcastle Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, Cosargar, of Colston Street in Benwell, entered a plea of guilty to five counts of shoplifting while speaking through an interpreter. The prosecutor, Claire Armstrong, claimed that between July 20 and August 4 of this year, Cosargar attacked the same Apple store five times. He stole three iPhones on July 20, two iPhones on July 25, two iPhones the next day, five iPhones on August 2, and two iPhones on August 4.

Between July 20 and August 4 of this year, according to prosecutor Claire Armstrong, Cosargar targeted the same Apple store five times. The defendant at the time was also under a community order, according to Miss Armstrong. The community order was granted to Cosargar earlier this year after he committed four shopliftings at the Metrocentre in Gateshead, the court was informed.
