The body of a missing California woman who was shot and kidnapped late Sunday was discovered 24 hours later, after police reported the arrest of a suspect in the “random attack.”
Andrea Vazquez’s corpse was discovered late Monday night in a vegetated field in Moreno Valley, according to a news release from Whittier police.
Authorities originally stated that Vazquez was removed from the parked car she was in with her boyfriend at Penn Park around midnight Sunday after a shooter fired at them.
Police in Whittier detained Gabriel Esparza, 20, in connection with the case hours before they discovered Vazquez’s remains. He was arrested without incident at his workplace in Lakewood, according to police.
The Whittier resident is facing charges of murder and kidnapping.
“At this time, it appears that Andrea Vazquez and her male companion were randomly targeted by the suspect at Penn Park,” Whittier police said.
