An increase in the salaries and pensions of government employees was announced by the interim Punjab government in the budget. In a press conference, Punjab’s Minister of Information Amir Mir disclosed that it had been decided to increase government workers’ salaries by 30% in the budget.
Pensions will also receive an additional 5% increase, and those over the age of 80 will see a 20% increase in their pension. Mir clarified that the budget contains no new taxes. The budget for healthcare and education has increased by 31%, and the province’s development budget will total Rs. 325 billion.
Immediately after taking office, the interim Chief Minister, he said, decided to repay a loan of Rs. 600 billion. The government wants to pay off this loan within the next four months because if it weren’t, it would have grown to Rs. 1100 billion by the end of the year.
The Minister also mentioned that the budget has established Rs. 1 billion endowment fund for journalists.
