According to a TansPeshawar representative, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Peshawar was named a finalist for the “Prize for Cities” in a ceremony held in New York.
According to him, Zu Peshawar was chosen as one of the World Resources Institute’s top five projects and received a monetary prize of $25,000 for it. Fayyaz Ahmad Khan, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of TransPeshawar, accepted the honour on behalf of Zu Peshawar.
BRT Peshawar is run by TransPeshawar. For the Award of the Prize for Cities, 260 initiatives from 175 cities across 65 nations were evaluated.
Zu Peshawar was praised on a global scale during the award ceremony for its contributions in improving the lives of Peshawar citizens, particularly those from socially excluded groups.
The contest was open to projects that made people’s life easier during the COVID-19 pandemic. This year’s prize theme was “Thriving Together in Turbulent Times.”
In August 2020, BRT Peshawar began operating amid the Covid-19 pandemic and supplied 54 million commuters with transportation options during that time.
Zu Peshawar offers transportation services to around 300,000 commuters everyday over its numerous lines, giving them access to 70% of the city.
