Brigadier Mustafa Kamal Barki, a senior ISI official, has been martyred along with his driver in the ambush attack by militants in South Waziristan. Two other Pakistani forces officials have also been wounded in the same attack.
While leading an encounter against terrorists from the front, an officer of the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) embraced martyrdom on Tuesday, while seven other members were injured, two critically, the military said in a statement.
Brigadier Mustafa Kamal Barki was confronted by the hardcore terrorists in South Waziristan’s Angoor Adda locality.
According to the ISPR, Brigadier Barki and his team put up a valiant fight against the terrorists during the encounter, and the officer gave his life for the sake of the motherland’s peace.
“Defence forces of Pakistan and intelligence agencies pledge to reaffirm and demonstrate firm resolve to eliminate the menace of terrorism from every inch of the country,” it further said.
Brigadier Barki was critical in locating and eliminating terrorists responsible for heinous attacks in Pakistan, including the attack on the Army Public School (APS) in Peshawar.
On October 12, 1995, he was commissioned into Pakistan’s prestigious Frontier Force Regiment. The officer’s wife, daughter, and son survive him.
As he is honoured for his bravery and sacrifice, the nation mourns the loss of their fallen hero.
Former Prime Minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan expressed his condolences on the tragic death. “It’s heartbreaking to learn that Brig. Mustafa Kamal Burki was killed in a terrorist ambush. “My condolences and prayers go out to the family,” he said on Twitter.

During the last three months, Pakistan’s security forces have conducted numerous anti-terrorism operations across the country, not only arresting terrorists and their facilitators but also foiling several attacks.
In January, two ISI officials, Director Naveed Sadiq Sial and Inspector Nasir Abbas, were killed in a gun attack on a roadside restaurant in Khanewal’s Pirowal neighbourhood.
The outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) later claimed responsibility for the deadly attack, claiming that it was carried out by a “secret squad” of the Lashkar-e-Khorasan terrorist group.
