A Syracuse kid was slain in a drive-by shooting on Monday night after purchasing a gallon of milk from a nearby grocery, leaving an upstate neighbourhood in shock.
At the junction of Oakwood Avenue and Martin Luther King East, Brexialee Torres, 11, was shot in the torso about 7:43 p.m., according to Syracuse.com.
When Brexialee arrived at Upstate University Hospital, she later passed away.
Syracuse Police Chief Joe Cecile revealed the shooter pulled up in a car at the crossroads and fired at a 19-year-old guy standing nearby when he first showed up at the scene, according to Syracuse.com.
Despite being shot in the leg, the teenager target is likely to live.
Police have not yet provided any details regarding the suspect car. The Post’s request for comment from the Syracuse Police Department was not answered.
Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m., a one-mile march from Salt City Market to the shooting scene was held in Brexialee’s honour.
An open discussion at the intersection will be followed at 5 p.m. by a vigil held by Rebirth SYR.
“The only way it will change is if we come together,” Jennifer Baxtron, founder of Mothers for Justice Syracuse, told Syracuse.com.

“Let’s come together and come up with solutions.”
Local activist Hasahn “Haz” Bloodworth also mourned Brexialee’s killing in a Facebook post.
“Far too many times we have been burdened into these very unfortunate, sad and unnecessary situations!” he wrote.
“In my community we ALL lost a child last night so moving forward, we will treat it as such!”
While they searched for the shooter, Chief Cecile advised the neighbourhood to be on guard.
