Boy George was “devastated” by the passing of his mother Dinah O’Dowd at the age of 84.
The I’m A Celebrity star’s representatives confirmed the sad news, saying that he is “devastated” by the loss.
They asked for privacy at this difficult time and added that Dinah passed away surrounded by her loving family, including the number-one artist.
The Karma Chameleon singer has four brothers and one sister; after his recent appearance on the most recent season of I’m A Celeb, his sister Siobhan met him on the wooden bridge.
The caring mother had surgery in April 2020 for “heart and lung problems” and spent two days in the hospital before going home.
Dinah expressed her love for her son in November and acknowledged that she was “not surprised” when he nearly left I’m A Celebrity in her honour.
George shared how his mother nearly passed away while receiving treatment at a London hospital in Greenwich during the coronavirus pandemic after MP Matt Hancock’s contentious entry into the Australian camp.
Now, his well-known friends and devoted followers have flocked to social media to remember his late mother there.
The hitmaker’s close friend DJ Fat Tony posted a lovely black and white photo of his mother on Instagram as a tribute to his mother.
He wrote in the meaningful post’s caption: “Godspeed, you wonderful woman. My thoughts are with @boygeorgeofficial and the entire O’Dowd family, Dinah. What a remarkable, gorgeous, and powerful woman. You’ll be missed, “which he kissed goodbye to.
The pop star had a strong bond with his mother, who raised him and his five siblings by herself after his father abandoned the family after a tumultuous marriage.
On Piers Morgan’s Life Stories in 2017, George spoke about his tumultuous relationship with his father, who passed away in 2003.
He recalled: “My dad was quite an extreme man. [He] could lose his temper and chuck the entire Sunday dinner over and everybody went hungry.
“It wasn’t until I got to about 15 or 16 that I realised how strong my mum was,” he confessed.
