The ‘very unusual’ all-white catfish was caught by a 15-year-old boy in the US. It was primarily white with a few pale pink spots on its fins.
A 15-year-old boy in the United States recently caught a rare white catfish.
The rare fish, which is a member of the species Ictalurus furcatus, or blue catfish, was caught by Edwards Tarumianz on June 28 when he was on a fishing trip led by Richard Simms from Scenic City Fishing Charters, according to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA).
The typical colour of this species is bluish-grey, however the specimen that Edwards caught was primarily white with some pale pink spots on its fins
Have a Look!
Richard Simms claimed in an interview with Newsweek that fish were “very scarce.” Most fishermen fish all their lives and never come across one. It was the first catfish I had ever seen in person. I am 67 years old, and over the years, I have literally boated tens of thousands of catfish.
Furthermore, Mr. Simms claimed that the catch was so extraordinary that if they hadn’t captured a photo of the fish, people might not have believed them.
The captain speculates that the fish might have been a leucistic catfish, a disorder that affects a variety of animals and is characterised by an overall light colour or diminished colouring in certain places. The chance of the fish being an albino exists as well. Melanin is absent in individuals with albinism, a hereditary disease.
Nevertheless, a TWRA spokeswoman was quoted by the publication as saying, “We all agree that it is a great and unusual catch.
The white catfish was returned to the water after the 15-year-old captured it, according to Mr. Simms.
Internet fans praised the child for his outstanding catch at the same time. He will fish for the rest of his life, and what a fishing tale he will have, one person said. Bravo, young man! What a unique memory for that young man, another person exclaimed. He is certain to never forget that day! He was relieved to catch it since no one would ever believe his “The One that Got Away” tale about a fish that resembled one of those! “WOW! What a lovely fish. Congratulations!” third person wrote.
