The board of the Benazir Kafalat Program (BKAP) has authorised including the transgender population as beneficiaries (BKP).
During the 56th Board of Directors meeting, which was presided over by Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety and BISP Chairman, Shazia Marri, the members instructed the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) to standardise a system for upgrading the CNICs of the transgender community.
Marri called the transgender policy a “landmark achievement” of the present government and requested that the board members use their influence to strengthen the underprivileged group so that as many transgender individuals as possible can take benefit of the policy.
The federal minister described the enrollment process with BKP for members of the transgender community as well as the subsequent Rs. 7,000 cash support that they will get.
The board also acknowledged the outstanding work done by organisations like BISP, Nadra, and the affiliated banks in quickly providing financial aid to flood victims.
The board decided that BISP would put into place a new distribution system that would let recipients get money directly from the bank of their choice, creating a clear system for distributing cash.
Marri further informed the board that 2.8 million families received Rs. 70 billion as part of the prime minister’s financial assistance for flood victims.
She did, however, note that much more work has to be done to assist and rehabilitate flood victims.
