The experts at Public Desire have conducted a study to ascertain the movie preferences of international and American moviegoers on July 21 as the premiere of Barbenheimer approaches. The purpose of the study is to determine which of the two movies, Oppenheimer or Barbie, they are more likely to watch first.
Google search information for Barbie and Oppenheimer was examined. This study examined 61 nations to determine which movie has the greatest level of excitement and interest among viewers.
The American rivalry between Barbie and Oppenheimer paints a picture of competition at the state level. Barbie is in the lead in 36 states, including California, Florida, and New York, according to Public Desire’s breakdown by state. Texas, the second-most populous state in the nation, is one of the 14 states where Oppenheimer manages to maintain the lead.
General search terms like “Barbie movie” and “Oppenheimer movie” were taken into consideration in this search analysis. These phrases shed light on the general interest in the movies among the general public. In order to determine which movies audiences are more likely to watch on the premiere date, the study also included specific search terms like “buy Barbie tickets” and “buy Oppenheimer tickets.”
Barbie has become the undisputed front-runner on a global scale, dominating the media in an impressive 45 nations. Barbie significantly outperforms Oppenheimer in Iran, where search data shows a significant 88% interest compared to just 12% for Oppenheimer. Brazil and Venezuela come in second and third, respectively, with each exhibiting a strong preference of 74% in favor of Barbie. The data show that there is widespread anticipation for the “Barbie” movie around the world, making it the preferred option in most of the analyzed nations.
Oppenheimer has maintained a strong presence and continues to enthrall its audience in various regions, despite Barbie enjoying a significant advantage in global interest due to its extensive marketing campaigns. The Christopher Nolan-directed film is the top result in 16 different countries. Oppenheimer leads the way in India with 76% of searches, while it holds a sizable amount of interest in Canada with 54% of searches.
In nations with nearly equal search volume, Barbie and Oppenheimer’s struggle for supremacy becomes even more fascinating. In the UK, Barbie has a slim lead (51%), followed closely by Oppenheimer (49%).
Similar to Switzerland, Malaysia’s search volume is split 50/50, making both movies equally competitive for viewers in these countries. Such close competitions in these nations show that both films were successful in building up significant anticipation and curiosity, which resulted in a neck-and-neck competition for viewers’ preferences and interests.
Even high-profile films like Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible, which debuted on July 12, have been eclipsed by the intense competition between these two films in terms of attention and anticipation from audiences worldwide.
