Wildlife roadkill has become a significant problem that exacerbates man-wildlife conflict. Numerous nations have constructed wildlife crossings, corridors, bridges, overpasses, and tunnels in an effort to reduce accidents caused by animals crossing the road. In order to provide a safe passageway for animals to travel, these overpasses strive to reduce the possibility of unintended accidents. As they are strategically positioned on both sides to direct animals toward the entry, these crossings are frequently built in combination with highway fencing. To get to the opposite side of the forest, animals still frequently have to traverse roads and other major thoroughfares. Supriya Sahu, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) official, recently posted a video that showed the “sad truth” in action.
The brief video, which was posted on Twitter, shows a mother elephant who appears to be showing her youngster how to cross a road safely. The mother and child are shown in the video approaching a road cautiously when the baby suddenly stops and clings to the mother’s legs. Before moving on, it appears that the mother animal provides her little one with some instructions. The child keeps getting closer to its mother throughout the entire footage. While teaching the infant about crossing the road safely, the mother swaps sides to keep the child in a safe area.
The woman and child eventually make it through without incident. “Mother elephant seems to teach her baby how to cross the road. A sad reality,” the description for the video stated.
