Babar Azam, the all-format captain, has made it clear that he will not wear the logos of bookmakers on his jersey during the Lanka Premier League in 2023.
The right-handed batter, who will lead the Colombo Strikers as well as play for them, reportedly objected to donning a betting company’s logo.
The cricketer, who was born in Lahore, reportedly informed Colombo Strikers of his decision before, and the team decided to comply.
Shahid Afridi, the former captain of Pakistan, also refused to wear a shirt with a gambling company’s logo earlier this year while competing in the Legends League Cricket (LLC) in Qatar.
Mohammad Rizwan also exhibited his unwavering dedication to his morals and values during the PSL by refusing to wear a shirt bearing the logo of their sponsor, Wolf777 News.
Along with David Miller, Matthew Wade, Shakib Al Hasan, and Tabraiz Shamsi, Babar Azam is one of the LPL players who directly signed contracts prior to the auction.
The Jaffna Kings will defend their championship during the fourth edition of the competition, which will take place at three different locations in Hambantota, Colombo, and Kandy.
The 28-year-old cricketer will captain the national team in the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka later this month, it is pertinent to note.
