Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan’s cricket team, placed impressively in the batting order during the recently finished World Test Championship (WTC) 2021–2023. Azam passed Steve Smith of Australia and Virat Kohli of India to take fourth place with an average of 69.10 in 20 innings.

Steve Smith, the WTC champion, has the second-best average in 30 innings (55.40), six fifties, and four centuries. With an average of 54.20 over 34 innings, including eight fifty-plus scores and six centuries, Joe Root of England is ranked third.

Angelo Mathews of Sri Lanka also made a significant contribution, averaging 48.40 runs per innings over 16 innings, including two fifty-run innings and two centuries. Virat Kohli, on the other hand, scored at the lowest average of the top five batsmen, 34.65 points per game, with three fifty-sixes and a century.

Australia defeated India by 209 runs to win the World T20 Championship on June 11. India was bowled out for 234 runs in their second innings on the fifth day of the game, falling short of their 444-run target.

Former Australian cricketer and current batting coach Matthew Hayden hailed Babar Azam as one of the greatest players of the modern era. Hayden believes that cricketers like Steve Smith, Virat Kohli, and Babar Azam are the best of this generation and possess exceptional talent.
