Austin Majors, a beloved child actor who won fans over with his roles in NYPD Blues and NCIS, passed away at the age of 27.
According to TMZ, Majors passed away on Saturday night while residing in a Los Angeles homeless shelter.
According to insiders who spoke to TMZ, the 27-year-old is thought to have consumed a lethal dose of fentanyl.
Following his passing, Majors’ family released a statement in which they described the actor as “a loving, artistic, smart, and kind human being.”
“Austin took great joy and pride in his acting career. He was an active Eagle Scout and graduated Salutatorian in High School.
“He went on to graduate from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts with a passion of directing and music producing.”
The family continued: “Austin’s younger sister, Kali, says her fondest memories with Austin were growing up on set with him, volunteering at events with “Kids With a Cause”, and backpacking together.
“Austin was the kind of son, brother, grandson, and nephew that made us proud and we will miss him deeply forever.”
Since receiving his star in the movie Nevada in 1997, Majors has made appearances in about two dozen films and TV episodes, such as American Dad!, NCIS, According to Jim, and Threshold, among others.
However, Majors is most known to viewers for playing Theo Sipowicz on NYPD Blues.
